Pre-Shipment Inspection and Quality Control for Paper Products

Pre-shipment inspection for paper products only protects you if production is actually checked against the approved spec and sample. Offshore's quality control work covers factory audits, in-process checks, and AQL-sampled pre-shipment inspection, so defects get caught before a container leaves the origin port, not after it arrives at your U.S. warehouse.

Factory Audits

Before production starts on a new item or with a new factory, Offshore reviews the factory's capability to actually produce the spec at the required volume, covering equipment, process, and material handling. A factory audit is separate from the commercial negotiation done during sourcing, it is a check on whether the factory can deliver what it quoted.

For food contact items, this includes confirming the materials and process are consistent with FDA compliance requirements for food contact. Where you need credentials such as FSC, PEFC, ISO 9001, BRC, or EcoLogo or Green Seal, availability is confirmed with the factory before the order is placed, since certification holders vary by supplier and by product.

In-Process Checks and AQL Inspection

During production, Offshore checks in-process output against the approved sample and spec, catching drift in print color, ply count, basis weight, or dimensions while there is still time to correct it. Pre-shipment inspection uses AQL sampling, whether the order is tissue, towels, napkins, or foodservice packaging, checking the physical product, the packing, and the carton marking against the purchase order before the container is loaded.

You do not need staff on the ground at the factory to get this coverage. What comes back is an inspection result before shipment, not a discovery made after a pallet is already unloaded at your U.S. warehouse.

Where Quality Problems Usually Start

Most finished goods problems trace back to a spec that was too loose, a sample that was approved without checking every attribute, or a factory substitution that was not flagged. Offshore's product development and sourcing steps exist partly to prevent these, and quality control for imported paper is the check that confirms they held through an actual production run.

Common questions

What is AQL inspection and why does it matter for a tissue or towel order?

AQL, or acceptable quality limit, is a statistical sampling method used to inspect a portion of a finished order rather than every unit. Offshore uses it for pre-shipment inspection so defects are caught at a meaningful sample size before the container loads.

What happens during a factory audit?

Offshore reviews a factory's equipment, process, and material handling against what the spec requires before production starts, confirming the factory can actually produce and deliver what it quoted.

Does Offshore hold certifications like FSC or ISO 9001?

Certifications such as FSC, PEFC, ISO 9001, BRC, FDA compliance for food contact, and EcoLogo or Green Seal exist at the factory and product level. Offshore confirms availability with the relevant factory for a given order rather than holding certifications itself.

What happens if an inspection finds a defect?

Offshore flags the issue to you before the shipment loads, with the option to hold the shipment, rework the affected goods, or adjust the order, rather than you discovering the problem after arrival in the U.S.

Do I need my own quality control team overseas?

No. Offshore's factory audits and pre-shipment inspections are built to cover that role, so you do not need staff on the ground at the origin factory.
