We want to make you aware of a possible labor disruption at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach that could affect shipments moving through Southern California in the coming days.
What's happening
ILWU Local 26, the union representing terminal security staff and watchmen at the two ports, has warned that its members may strike when their current contract extension expires on Sunday, November 1. Up to eight container terminals could be affected. Negotiations are continuing with the help of federal mediators, and no strike has been confirmed at this time.
Why it matters
If picket lines go up, other ILWU workers may choose not to cross them. That could slow or stop vessel loading and unloading, yard operations, and truck gate activity at the affected terminals, even though the dispute involves a relatively small group of workers.
What we recommend
- Allow extra transit and delivery time for cargo routed through LA/Long Beach.
- Let us know as soon as possible about any time-sensitive or high-priority shipments, so we can review alternative routings and contingency options with you.
- Keep your downstream customers informed of potential delays.
What we're doing
We are in close contact with our carriers and partners and are monitoring the situation daily. We will send updates as soon as there is news, whether the dispute is resolved or a stoppage begins.
If you have questions about a specific shipment, please contact your account representative or reach us at info@opglobalsource.com.
Thank you for your understanding and continued trust.
